World Cup Day 12

In group A Saudi Arabia beat Egypt 2-1 and Uruguay beat Russia 3-0. With there wins Saudi Arabia Finish 3rd in there group and Uruguay wins the group. With there losses Russia still advances and finishes second in the group while Egypt finishes last place in the group.

Advancing to Next Round: Uruguay and Russia

Eliminated from Tournament: Saudi Arabia and Egypt

In group B Iran and Portugal had a 1-1 draw and Spain and Morocco had a 2-2 draw. With there draws Spain and Portugal advance to the next round. Spain wins there group on tiebreaker and Portugal finishes 2nd place in there group. Iran is eliminated with the draw and finishes in 3rd place in there group. Morocco finishes in last place in there group by virtue of this draw.

In group D Nigeria beat Iceland 2-0. Croatia has already advanced to the next round and needs a win or a draw in the next match to win the group for certain. With a loss they finish no worse than 2nd and can still win there group. With this win Nigeria will advance for certain with a win and still have a good chance of advancing with a draw. With a loss they will be eliminated. With some help Nigeria can also win the group with a win in there next match. With a draw they can finish no worse than 3rd in there group. With a loss they could still finish last place. Argentina needs to win to advance to the next round. World Cup Day 22

No matches today so I will preview the last two quarterfinal match ups. In the first match on Saturday Sweden will take on England. England is the heavy favorite in this match but do not count out Sweden for there have played well so far in this tournament. England on the other hand has lost one match already and required a penalty shootout win just to advance to this round. In the second match Russia will take on Croatia. Both teams needed a shootout win to make it to this round. The Russians are the home team and therefore should not be counted out even if they are the underdog.

World Cup Day 19

In the first match today Brazil beat Mexico 2-0. The match was close in the first half but Brazil dominated the second half. Brazil advances to the quarterfinals for the 7th tournament in a row while Mexico is eliminated in the round of 16 for the 7th tournament in the row. In the second match today Belgium beat Japan 3-2 in a last second stoppage time match winning goal. Belgium came back from down 2 goals at by scoring three unanswered goals in the end of the match. Teams advancing to next round: Brazil and Belgium Teams eliminated from the tournament: Mexico and Japan In the first match tomorrow Sweden will take on Switzerland. In the group stage of the tournament Sweden won there group and Switzerland finished second in there group. Both teams are considered favorites to go deep in this tournament.
