World Cup Day 13

In group C Peru beat Australia 2-0 and Denmark and France had a 0-0 draw. The 0-0 draw was the first of the tournament and was a very boring match. With the win Peru finishes 3rd place and the group and is still eliminated from the tournament. With the loss Australia finishes last place in there group and is eliminated from the tournament. With there draw France wins there group and advances and Denmark finishes 2nd and advances.

In group D Argentina beat Nigeria 2-1 and Croatia beat Iceland 2-1. With there win Croatia wins the group and advances to the next round. With there win Argentina finishes in 2nd place and advances to the next round. With there loss Nigeria finishes in 3rd place and gets eliminated from the tournament. With there loss Iceland finishes in last place and is eliminated from the tournament.

In group D Nigeria beat Iceland 2-0. Croatia has already advanced to the next round and needs a win or a draw in the next match to win the group for certain. With a loss they finish no worse than 2nd and can still win there group. With this win Nigeria will advance for certain with a win and still have a good chance of advancing with a draw. World Cup Day 22

No matches today so I will preview the last two quarterfinal match ups. In the first match on Saturday Sweden will take on England. England is the heavy favorite in this match but do not count out Sweden for there have played well so far in this tournament. England on the other hand has lost one match already and required a penalty shootout win just to advance to this round. In the second match Russia will take on Croatia. Both teams needed a shootout win to make it to this round. The Russians are the home team and therefore should not be counted out even if they are the underdog.

World Cup Day 19

In the first match today Brazil beat Mexico 2-0. The match was close in the first half but Brazil dominated the second half. Brazil advances to the quarterfinals for the 7th tournament in a row while Mexico is eliminated in the round of 16 for the 7th tournament in the row. In the second match today Belgium beat Japan 3-2 in a last second stoppage time match winning goal. Belgium came back from down 2 goals at by scoring three unanswered goals in the end of the match. Teams advancing to next round: Brazil and Belgium Teams eliminated from the tournament: Mexico and Japan In the first match tomorrow Sweden will take on Switzerland. In the group stage of the tournament Sweden won there group and Switzerland finished second in there group. Both teams are considered favorites to go deep in this tournament.
